2008 Fashion Revue Information

What is State 4-H Fashion Revue?
Fashion Revue Forms

State 4-H Fashion Revue is a competitive event for youth enrolled in 4-H clothing and textile projects. As a part of these projects, youth learn about and practice clothing construction, consumerism, appearance, grooming habits, clothing selections and more. Youth have the opportunity to demonstrate what they've learned during county and state 4-H Fashion Revues.

4-H youth that were selected as winners of county 4-H Fashion Revue events during 2008 are eligible to participate in the State 4-H Fashion Revue September 13, 2008 at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

In addition to attending fun, educational workshops, youth will participate in a session where an adult expert judges their made and purchased garment.  Lunch and a fashion show in Jesse Auditorium are the final events of the day.

Objectives are to provide:

  • An opportunity to demonstrate skills and knowledge of clothing and textile construction and consumerism
  • A reflection of the fashion trends of young people
  • A learning experience in dressing and grooming for the "total" look
  • An educational workshop for learning to project a smile, enthusiasm and poise, and help build self-confidence
  • An opportunity for each 4-H participant to involve his or her special talents
  • An educational program that may be adapted and reproduced at the county/area level

Instructions for Completing Forms
We need to know what participants will be wearing in the State 4-H Fashion Revue. Your ensemble and accessories should reflect the season for which they are intended to be worn, and should not be altered just because the Fashion Revue is held in the summer. It is important that a complete description of the outfit be given on the Garment Data Forms. Describe the specific details that make up the design. (The back of the pattern envelope is a good source of descriptive terms for those in the Clothes You Make category).

Please fill in the requested information as accurately as possible.  The Garment Data Forms are used for news releases and commentary.

The Garment Data Forms must include one full-length, color photograph of you wearing the complete outfit (including accessories) that you will model at the State Fashion Revue. This photo may be taken at your 4-H county event. The photo is used for category placements and background information for the judges and fashion show coordinator. The photo should fit the area designated on the registration form.

To help participants get off to a good start, please remember the following:

  1. Registration is from 8:00 - 8:45 a.m. for both parents and 4-H’ers on the second floor lobby in the Memorial Student Union (South side) on Hitt Street.  Participants should plan to dress and prepare for the day during this time.
  2. Dressing is in assigned rooms on the second floor (S203, 204, 206, 207) for females and bathrooms for the males. Mirrors will be placed in these rooms and electrical outlets are available.
  3. Parking is available in any University parking garage. Parking is available behind the Memorial Student Union or in most University parking lots or garages.
  4. Workshops and judging begins after getting dressed in your garment for the day. Proceed to the workshop or judging session to which you have been assigned as indicated on your nametag. Workshops and judging begin promptly at 9 a.m. and are held in rooms located in Gwynn and Stanley Halls. Room size is small so that we ask parents not to attend the judging or workshop sessions.
  5. Fashion Show will begin in Jesse Hall at 2 p.m. Remember that appropriate accessories to your outfit can be included in the Fashion Show. If you decide to bring an accessory, choose an item that is appropriate for your garment (i.e. tennis racket with sports outfit; beach ball/towel with summer outfit).
  6. Parent’s may pick up a program that includes a schedule of events then tour the campus or Columbia. Parents are welcome to attend the Fashion Show.
  7. Registration fee ($20) includes the cost of lunch that will be at McDonalds on campus. We will go as a group to eat at noon.
