More Information About the Course
Volunteers are the backbone of youth-serving
organizations. Effective volunteers provide the experiences and positive relationships
that enable youth to gain the skills and competencies they need to be successful now and
in the future.
Our goal is to prepare volunteers who work with
young people in nonformal educational settings to be
more effective in promoting positive youth development.
The "Youth Volunteers"
course is intended to:
- assist volunteers by providing them with the
training and support needed to work effectively with youth audiences.
- remove barriers to receiving volunteer education
by using the Internet as the media for instruction, thereby allowing volunteers to access
training whenever and wherever they want it.
- furnish an opportunity for volunteers to
communicate with others who have similar interests and needs.
- provide volunteers with an online resource that
they can continue to utilize in the future.
- reach volunteers in rural and remote areas by
providing training that is accessible via the Internet.
This training
course will include instruction on topics related
to working with youth, activities that reinforce the
concepts through application, and links to other valuable
Internet resources related to youth development.
The content of Youth Volunteers is not based on
myth or popular opinion. Instead, it is based on principles and practices that have been
substantiated by scientific research and literature on youth development.
