Adults
wishing to become volunteer leaders for the 4-H Sportfishing project are
required to attend this training.
WHY?
For Success!
A successful experience for adult
volunteers as well as the young people is important-even critical. Many adults have angling skills and are
willing to share their knowledge and experience with young people. But willing to, and being successful, are
two entirely different things. We
want 4-H Sportfishing to be a positive experience for everyone
involved. This workshop isn’t to
teach you how to fish, but to teach you how to lead a 4-H fishing project!
At
the leader workshop you will:
- Receive a
copy of a nationally developed curriculum/lesson plans
- Receive
instruction in two different program areas
- Learn that
young people are our most important resource
- Learn
successful strategies for working with young people
- Explore
liability, insurance, and risk management procedures
- “Practice”
your teaching skills
- Develop a
better understanding of your role as a 4-H volunteer
- Become part
of a network of fellow volunteers
What is 4-H Sportfishing?
The National
4-H Sportfishing program is a youth development program that provides a
comprehensive curriculum designed to develop life skills in young people
while educating then to exercise leadership and support for responsible
recreational fishing and stewardship of aquatic resources. This is accomplished by involving youth
with caring adult volunteers in a long-term, on-going, community-based
program.
