Youth Participate in State 4-H Leadership Summit

March 7-9, 2008
COLUMBIA, Mo.

"Finding and Using Your Voice" was the theme of this year's Youth Civic Leaders Summit.  108 youth and adults received leadership training at Windermere Conference Center near Camdenton.

During the retreat, youth and adults from 14 counties participated in “4-H Café” group activities based on the 7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens by author Sean Covey.

Scott Niemeyer, State 4-H Council president, welcomed the group on Friday evening. Paul Pitchford, Heart of Missouri Regional Professional Development Center, led the group in 7 Habits training. Teams shared their abilities at a team talent showcase and created an action plan for strengthening youth-adult partnerships.

Organizers have said that the event supports youth getting more involved in leadership and decision-making in their communities.
The event was sponsored by Cenex Harvest States Foundation, Land O’ Lakes Foundation, Monsanto Company, the Missouri Bar Association, and the Missouri 4-H Foundation.
