Columbia, Missouri

A record number of teens attended the 2008 Teen Conference held at Stoney Creek Inn, Columbia. The 277 youth, ages 11-13, built leadership skills and increased their knowledge of healthy lifestyles, international education opportunities, and what it takes to be a “difference maker” in their local communities.

4-H Teen Conference delegates also took part in a “silver rush,” donating coins for the Kids Helping Kids fund. The youth raised over $314.00 for the fund, which assists 4-H families who are experiencing hardship due to natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances.

The conference ended on a high note with a session on “being a difference maker,” featuring motivational speaker Grant Baldwin of Ozark, Mo.

The 4-H Teen Conference is planned and facilitated by the older teens of the Missouri State 4-H Council with assistance from state and local 4-H staff. In addition to the strong educational components, this annual conference seeks to inform youth about the many 4-H opportunities that await them as teenagers.

Sponsored in part by MFA.
