Nearly 100 University of Missouri Extension 4-H members participated in the 2008 State 4-H Fashion Revue at the University of Missouri, Sept. 13. MU Extension 4-H'ers attended workshops in which they learned about fashion trends in the past century and how to make an outfit for any occasion. Youth modeled clothing they made or purchased in four categories: Clothes You Make, Clothes You Buy, Knit garments and Crochet garments.
Katie Pennell of Verona, Mo., won first place and $25 in the junior division of Clothes You Make. Rebekah Hawkins of Osceola, Mo., placed second among competitors ages 8 to 13. Jenna Moore of Holt, Mo., placed third; Mallory Yung of Mendon, Mo., took fourth; and Margaret Miles of Marshall, Mo., finished fifth.
"State 4-H Fashion Revue provides youth with an opportunity to compete in a positive environment and learn other skills, such as how to communicate well with others, how to be confident in themselves and their abilities, and how to present themselves well in a variety of situations," said Alison Copeland, MU Extension state 4-H youth specialist. "With these skills, MU Extension 4-H members can be successful in everything they do."
