On Aug. 22, 2009, thousands of Missourians launched 2,211 fountains powered by Mentos and soda at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia in an attempt to break the world record for such an event. Volunteers, including University of Missouri Extension 4-H kids, took part in the event that also provided a valuable science lesson. The event, led by Jason Lindsey of hookedonscience.org, was also sponsored by Science and Citizens Organized for Purpose and Exploration (SCOPE).
